Summer isn’t over yet! There are still lots of exciting things for you to do in the city. Check out this list of FREE events in New York and head out for some summer fun!
At this massive grub hub, there’s only one rule: Come hungry. The Brooklyn Flea spin-off draws more than 20,000 to 30,000 visitors per week! Plus, there’s a slew of 75 to 100 incredible food vendors offering everything from Dutch waffles to pasta doughnuts. So, you’re sure to find just what your taste buds are craving when you visit!
The list of vendors varies each year, but some new vendors for 2017 include Baked Cheese Haus, Ube Kitchen, Pop Pasta, Dulcinea Churros and Destination Dumplings. Pro tip: Make sure you peruse the lineup before you go. Those mouth-watering scents and the bevy of choices can make it hard to decide on one thing, (and the dense crowds can make you a bit hangry). So, try to get an idea of what you’d like to eat beforehand.
Hester Street Fair
This Lower East Side flea hosts one of Manhattan’s best collections of vendors, with more upstarts joining the fray every week. Standouts from recent years that have gotten their start at the fair include Macaron Parlour, Petee’s Pie Company, Melt Bakery, La Newyorkina, Arancini Bros and Cheeky Sandwich.
BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn
Brooklyn’s premier outdoor performance series returns with nonstop free music, dance and film events. It was launched almost 40 years ago by nonprofit community arts organization, BRIC, to revitalize Prospect Park. Since then, it’s been a huge success!
On Saturday, July 29th, Admiral T leads the stage with his blend of reggae, soca, and dancehall beats. Tabou Combo and DJ Spike T.I. will join him on stage for added funk.
On Thursday, August 3rd, Bluegrass and Jazz masters Béla Fleck & The Flecktones team up with comedian and talented ukulele player/singer, Nellie Mckay. Together, they will showcase some unique, entertaining, musical string plucking. It’s a show that you definitely want to see!
While you’re there, be sure to check out the NY Handmade Collective’s market, which features wares from local artisans, and slow-food from The Farm on Adderley.
This summer, catch some movies under the stars with Hudson RiverFlicks. Also, “Sing Along Specials” in Clinton Cove celebrates musical movies. Check out the entire movie lineup and pier location here.
